A short review of the history of the Samoems Sighthounds written in 2008
by independant contributors to a website dedicated to the protection of
the Saluki.
Samoem Kennels, a world-renowned kennel for breeding Whippets and
Salukis was established in 1962 by Tim F. Teillers. Mr. Teillers was the
youngest breeder in Dutch canine history to be awarded the insignia in
gold for his achievements. Now, forty-seven years later he still holds
the record for breeding the most champions in both breeds. In 2004, his
last Saluki Champion Samoems Surdar became the 36th Samoem owned or bred
Saluki to gain the Winner title in Amsterdam. Surdar was also the 21st
Samoem Saluki to win at the prestigious French Specialty in the past 25
years. Mr. Teillers is the only breeder worldwide to have won the group
at the World Show an impressive five times; also winning the BIS title
at the World Show three times with two different Salukis (Dortmund ,
Amsterdam & Vienna). His Salukis through the years have record holding
acknowledgements as the first and only desert bred BIS winner (Sherrah),
the first Saluki female BIS winner (Burydown Vasha), the first Saluki
male BIS winner in Amsterdam (Sarkis), and several Salukis as Dog of the
Year (Sarkis and Sais).
The Whippet Ch.Samoems Silent Knight –of Shalfleet was the first Whippet
bred outside the United Kingdom to become an English champion.
Though Samoem is known for breeding Whippets and Salukis, this kennel
had the honour to have campaigned three other Sight Hound breeds: The
Afghan CH.Bellona van Bornia State gained the title in Amsterdam as well
as German Bundessiegerin, the Borzoi Ch.Xosip van Troybikho won BIS at
Amsterdam, the Greyhound CH's Shalfleet Sea Bird, Velocity Victorian
Heiress twice became world champion (Kopenhagen and Tel Aviv), and Eng.
& Int. Ch. Shalfleet Stop That Tiger.
